AFL Introduces Compact Splicing and Distribution Enclosure
04/02/2018
Spartanburg, SC – AFL, a leading global fiber optics manufacturer and service provider, is introducing the LightLink 550 Optical Splicing and Distribution Enclosure (LL-550), a compact wall-mounted enclosure that builds upon the success of its larger counterpart, the LightLink 580, by providing similar patching and splicing capability but in a smaller form factor. Similar to the LL-580, the LL-550 is an ideal fit for business service hand-offs, MDU distribution and connectivity, cellular backhaul and other commercial services that require weather-proof field connectivity, but may have size constraints due to crowded cabinets, telco closets or other congested mounting surfaces.
"The LL-580 has been a monumental success for our customers due to the flexibility it provides in dealing with many different MDU environments as well as cell sites," commented Will Miller, product line manager of OSP Connectivity at AFL. "The LL-550 can now provide similar functionality and flexibility for those installations where the LL-580 would not have been a candidate due to space constraints.”
The LL-550 is available with up to 48 SC UPC or APC connections as well as a splice-only configuration for up to 144 single fusion splices or 576 ribbon fibers with mass fusion. The LL-550 can also be coupled with accessories such as the slack storage conduit skirt or telescoping skirt. This enclosure protects sensitive optical components not only from weather and natural elements, but also from vandalism and malicious intrusion. The enclosure is made with heavy gauge aluminum and offers flexible locking features to ensure that only authorized personnel have access to the internal components.
