AFL Presents $15K Grant to Middle Tyger Community Center
09/14/2021
Spartanburg, SC – AFL, an international manufacturer of fiber optic cable, connectivity and accessories, provided a $15,000 grant to the Middle Tyger Community Center (MTCC), an organization that provides holistic services that empower individuals and families and help break the generational poverty cycle. The grant supports MTCC’s counseling program and will provide 300 hours of therapy to serve a minimum of 25 clients per month for one year. Counseling services include play therapy for young children as well as age-appropriate therapy for adolescents.
“Half of all mental health disorders show first signs before a person turns 14 years old, and 75 percent of mental health disorders begin before age 24,” said Tina Gaudiano, Senior Program Director for MTCC’s Counseling Center. “This grant will allow us to continue providing youth counseling services at a time when we’re seeing an increase in feelings of isolation and depression, most likely a result of pandemic restrictions.”
While five children in 1,000 need hearing assistance and 30 in 1,000 have visual needs, an average of 200 out of 1,000 have mental health issues. Many behavioral health issues are left untreated. Gaudiano continued, “It is particularly important that youth have access to mental health services. When compared to other health needs of children, mental health outweighs other disparities.”
Middle Tyger Community Center provides resources that enhance and support the lives of people in Spartanburg County including a combination of concrete resources and programs that lead to long-term change. MTCC envisions a vibrant community where children play, people work, and families thrive.
AFL’s Community Outreach Program includes grants, sponsorships, volunteer and environment initiatives, disaster relief, scholarships and more. For additional information on AFL, its products and services, visit www.AFLglobal.com.
