Geoff Vanderveen, Director of Environment, Health & Safety

Geoff VanderVeen joined AFL in 2017 as the Director, Environment, Health and Safety for AFL globally. Geoff‘s leadership in this role is reinforced by his over 27 years of Environment, Health and Safety experience.

Prior to joining AFL, he spent 20 years in the Consumer Products industry leading National EHS Teams. Geoff managed multiple site programs and supported restructuring programs including development and implementation of EHS systems for a brownfield redevelopment and relocation project. He also focused on environmental programs such as energy conservation efforts, waste minimization and water reduction projects to conserve resources and the environment we live in.

Geoff’s passion for safety and drive to ensure a safe working environment for employees can be seen with a hands-on approach coupled with providing business leadership. This, combined with the principle that people are AFL’s greatest resource, is Geoff’s philosophy and work ethic. In addition to EHS, Geoff is driving AFL’s Environmental Sustainability program focused on energy and efficiency, greenhouse gas reduction and reducing waste generation and water utilization.

Geoff graduated from Mohawk College in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada from the Industrial Management Program combining Industrial Engineering with Business. He started his career as an Industrial Engineer and quickly transferred these skills into the EHS arena. Expanding his knowledge base by attending Ryerson University for his Health and Safety Certificate and obtaining his designation as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional and a member of the American Society of Safety Professionals.

Upon moving to the Upstate South Carolina area in 2015, Geoff was very active in the local ice hockey community as an assistant coach for both the Greater Greenville High School hockey team, Under 18 Tournament team, and board member. He continues to play in the Greenville County Recreation Department’s adult hockey program. With adult children Geoff and his wife have turned back to recreational actives such as biking, canoeing, hiking, camping, downhill skiing and boating. He was born and raised in Burlington, Ontario, about 30 miles west of Toronto.
